Final year student of Michael Okpara University slumps and dies

A heartbreaking event has occurred at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umudike, Abia State. A final year Mechanical Engineering student named Nwachukwu Omiko has sadly lost his life.

The university shared this news in a statement released on Wednesday, May 15. According to the Chief Public Relations Officer, Ubadire Agua, the incident happened while Omiko was playing football on campus.

Information available to the university authority has it that Omiko slumped in the pitch and his co-players tried to resuscitate him before alerting the University Health Services. 

He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia in the University’s oxygen-equipped ambulance in a neck-breaking speed,” the statement said

Even though people around tried to help and save him, Omiko unfortunately could not survive.

“The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, extends deep regrets and condolences of the university to the parents and family of Omiko as well as his colleagues in the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology,” the statement said.

The school management is now advising all students to make sure they check their health when they arrive at school. They also warned students to avoid doing heavy exercises if they have any hidden health issues.

This sad event reminds everyone to always take their health seriously, especially during physical activities.
