Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi undergoes emergency surgery

Taiwo Awoniyi, a striker for the Super Eagles, has had an emergency surgery due to an abdominal injury.

The injury happened during Nottingham Forest’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City on Sunday, according to Mail Sport.

Awoniyi, 27, collided with the goalpost in the final moments of the match at the City Ground.

He attempted to continue playing after receiving treatment for several minutes.

However, the full extent of his injury was only discovered on Monday when the club’s medical team realized the severity. He was then taken to the hospital for urgent surgery.

The injury occurred when Awoniyi reached out to meet Anthony Elanga’s cross and ended up sliding into the goalpost, which caused him visible pain. This moment also sparked a conversation between Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis and manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Marinakis was upset with how the medical team handled the situation.

Although Awoniyi received around three minutes of treatment, he couldn’t be substituted since Forest had already used their last substitution to replace Elliot Anderson with Jota Silva.
