Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has revealed that manager Ruben Amorim wants to make significant changes to the current squad. He claims that Amorim is looking to sell up to 50% of the players, as many are not suited to the team’s style of play.
This comes after another disappointing result for Manchester United, who suffered a 2-0 home loss to West Ham on Sunday. The defeat left the Red Devils in 16th place in the Premier League standings, continuing their difficult season.
Under Amorim’s management, Manchester United has struggled, winning only six of 25 league matches. Their last win was in March against Leicester City, who have since been relegated.
Ferdinand believes Amorim is already planning a major squad overhaul. He stated that the manager is likely looking at the current team and thinking that at least half of the players don’t fit his vision for the club. He added that Amorim needs at least two transfer windows to rebuild a squad capable of performing as he wants.
In Ferdinand’s words, “If I could wave a magic wand, in the next five years, at least 50% of this team wouldn’t be here.” He emphasized that many players simply aren’t good enough or aren’t right for the playing style Amorim is trying to establish at Manchester United.
