The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has asked an education expert, Alex Onyia, to help find out what went wrong during the 2025 UTME. Onyia is the CEO of Educare and has a strong background in using technology in education.
Many students and parents have complained that the 2025 UTME had several problems. Some said they faced technical issues, and others mentioned that some exam questions were not complete.
Last week, JAMB revealed that over 1.5 million out of 1.9 million candidates scored below 200 out of the total 400 marks. This news shocked many people across the country and raised concerns about the quality of the exam.
Parents and education stakeholders have been calling for a full investigation to understand what led to such a high rate of failure.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, responded by saying that the poor results were a sign that JAMB had taken strong steps to stop exam malpractice. He believed this was a good sign of progress.
However, many Nigerians did not agree with the Minister. They felt something must have gone wrong and insisted that JAMB should investigate the situation thoroughly.
On Tuesday, Alex Onyia confirmed through a post on X (formerly Twitter) that JAMB had officially invited him to lead the investigation. He promised that the review would be transparent and honest.
Onyia advised affected students to stay calm, adding that he believes the investigation will bring some good news in the end.
He shared, “JAMB has officially asked me to carry out a full review of the 2025 UTME. We’ll begin on Thursday.”
He also said he would make his findings public once the investigation is complete.
Encouraging students, he added, “I know many of you studied hard, stayed up at night, and were hoping for success. Please stay hopeful. We will not disappoint you.”
