Why do we demonize second wives when Solomon and Joseph were not sons of first wives? – Filmmaker, Aniebiet Francis asks

Nollywood filmmaker Aniebiet Francis has raised an interesting question about second marriages and the treatment of second wives. She asks why society often criticizes second wives, especially when two famous figures from the Bible, Solomon and Joseph, were not born to their father’s first wives.

Francis highlights how these Biblical figures are respected and celebrated despite the fact that they were children from second marriages. Solomon became a wise and powerful king, and Joseph played a crucial role in Egypt. Yet, neither of them was the son of a first wife. This brings up an important point: why is there so much judgment around second marriages, especially when people like Solomon and Joseph, who came from those unions, are praised?

By raising this question, Aniebiet Francis challenges the norms that often stigmatize second wives and their children. She suggests that society should reconsider its views and stop demonizing second wives, as many of them play significant roles in families and societies, just as the children of these marriages can go on to do great things.

“Grab your seats let’s talk about something very sensitive. Why do we demonize second wives when Solomon, David’s heir was not the son of David’s first wife and Joseph was the sons of Jacob’s second wife? Don’t you think that God wouldn’t have made the sons of these women prominent in the genealogy of Jesus, if He was so judge-mental of their positions in their marriages? As you are coming to support or counter this post, please come with Bible references. I won’t condone any tantrums here,” she wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday.
