Rivers crisis: ‘Opt out since your spirit already left’ – Wike’s aide mocks Fubara

Lere Olayinka, who works closely with Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has mocked the suspended Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara. He reacted to Fubara’s recent comment where he showed little interest in returning to office.

During a song service held in memory of the late elder statesman Edwin Clark, Sim Fubara made it clear that he wasn’t desperate to be governor again. The event took place in Port Harcourt, where Fubara made this emotional statement.

Speaking to the audience, Fubara said he had already moved on emotionally. “Can’t you see I look better now? Do you think I still want to go back there? My spirit left that place a long time ago,” he said;

In response to the worsening political situation in Rivers State, President Bola Tinubu took bold steps. He suspended Fubara, his deputy Prof. Ngozi Odu, and all lawmakers in the state’s House of Assembly for six months. He also announced a state of emergency and placed retired naval officer Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator.

The crisis in Rivers began when Fubara and Wike clashed over political control in the state. The fight between them nearly turned into a security problem, especially after some Niger Delta militants threatened to destroy oil facilities in protest.

Reacting to Fubara’s words, Olayinka used a marriage analogy. He said that if someone’s spirit has left a marriage, they should just walk away. He posted on social media, “It’s not by force to stay in a marriage your spirit already left. Just opt out legally.”
