Losing hair is something many men worry about, but a new survey might help ease those fears. It turns out that bald men are actually seen as more attractive by many women.
The study, which asked 2,000 women about the traits they find most appealing in men, showed some surprising results.
The number one trait women love? A muscular build. But coming in close at number two — a bald head. Yes, really! Around 40% of the women said baldness was a very attractive feature.
Jessica Leoni from Illicit Encounters, the group that ran the study, says beauty is personal. “Attractiveness is in the eye of the beholder,” she explained, adding that bald men are “some of the sexiest looking chaps out there.”
Science backs this up. Other studies have shown that bald men are often seen as more powerful in a calm, non-aggressive way. They’re also thought to be more mature, educated, honest, and intelligent. So, being bald might actually send a message of strength and wisdom.
Here’s what the survey found to be the top attractive features in men:
- Muscular build – 42%
- Bald head – 40%
- Blue eyes – 38%
- Beards – 36%
- Dark hair – 31%
- Curly hair – 30%
- High cheekbones – 26%
- Blonde hair – 22%
- Green eyes – 21%
- Hairy chest – 18%
- Tattoos – 10%
- Piercings – 7%
So, if you’re bald—or starting to lose your hair—you might already have an edge.
Men spend billions every year trying to stop hair loss. But this study suggests that embracing baldness and shaving your head could be a much easier (and more attractive) solution.
Take Tom Simons, a 45-year-old from Kent. He started going bald in his 30s and was upset at first. “I wore hats and even thought about getting a wig,” he said. But a female friend encouraged him to accept it and shave it off.
That advice changed everything. “There’s a certain confidence being bald gives you,” Tom said. “I definitely get more attention now that I’m not hiding it.”
