President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the use of NIN (National Identity Number) authentication across all government agencies in Nigeria. This means ministries, departments, and agencies will now use this system to confirm people’s identities.
The Federal Government also announced the launch of NIN Authentication by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). The aim is to make it easier and safer for citizens and legal residents to verify their identity when accessing government services.
NIMC’s spokesperson, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, shared the news in a statement on Tuesday. He explained that the new system, called NINAuth, includes tools for web, mobile, and API-based verification. It is built to protect personal data, improve privacy, and make identity checks more secure.
The NINAuth app connects directly with NIMC’s database and uses strong security measures. It also puts users in charge of their personal data by asking for permission before sharing it for any service, such as KYC (Know Your Customer) checks.
This move is expected to build more trust in digital identity services and give people more control over their personal information.
