JAMB: Over 1.5 million Candidates Score Below 200 In 2025 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released details about how students performed in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

According to JAMB, a total of 1,955,069 students took the UTME this year.

Out of this number, more than 1.5 million students scored less than 200 in the exam, showing a major performance gap across the country.

JAMB also shared that only 4,756 students scored above 320, while another 7,658 scored between 300 and 319.

In a statement, JAMB mentioned that 40,247 candidates who are underage were allowed to sit for the exam. These students were given a chance to prove their academic strength.

However, only 467 of these underage students—about 1.16%—scored marks considered excellent by JAMB standards.

JAMB also explained that these underage candidates will still go through three more stages of evaluation before any final decision is made about their performance.
