In a major political shift, all members of the House of Representatives from Delta State who were part of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement of their switch to the APC was made by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, during the House’s meeting on Tuesday.
This move follows earlier defections by former Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and the current governor, Sheriff Oborevwori. Both leaders left the PDP and joined the APC.
Their decision to switch parties was revealed during a meeting with political stakeholders in Asaba, the capital city of Delta State.
After these changes, Ikenga Ugochinyere, a House of Representatives member from Imo State, shared that more PDP politicians—including two governors and 40 lawmakers—are expected to leave the party soon.
In response to the wave of defections, former Senate President Bukola Saraki stated that the PDP still plans to rebuild and stay strong. He also said that anyone who wants to leave the party is free to do so.
