The Nigerian military has arrested four people for helping terrorists in the North-East of Nigeria. Among those arrested were two members of the hybrid forces — people who were supposed to support the military in fighting terrorism.
These arrests happened between April 26 and 29 during a joint operation in Bama, Kukawa, and Madagali areas in Borno and Adamawa states. According to Major General Markus Kangye, these arrests are very serious because the two hybrid force members broke the trust placed in them by working with terrorists.
General Kangye warned military commanders to make sure their team members understand the dangers of helping the enemy. He stressed that hybrid force members, in particular, need to be carefully monitored.
Aside from these arrests, the military carried out more attacks and patrols in places like Gwoza, Dikwa, Bama, Chibok, Gujba, Geidam, and Yunusari. These operations led to the deaths of several terrorists. The soldiers also rescued six kidnapped victims and recovered weapons, bullets, motorcycles, and bicycles used by the terrorists.
In the South-South region, the military made progress in fighting oil theft. They found and recovered more than 86,000 litres of stolen crude oil, 72,000 litres of illegal diesel, and over 2,600 litres of petrol. The military also shut down several illegal refineries and seized boats, vehicles, tanks, and phones used in the operations.
