Kebbi Assembly to summon Dandi LG chairman over failed oversight visit

Kebbi State House of Assembly has called on Dr. Mansur Isah, the Chairman of Dandi Local Government Area, along with his council members, after they failed to attend an official oversight visit scheduled by a joint House committee.

Hon. Salihu Mai Kasuwa Dangoje, head of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, revealed this during the committee’s visit to the Dandi Local Government Secretariat in Kamba on Friday.

Dangoje, who also leads the Joint Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Budget Monitoring, Economic Planning, and Due Process, expressed his disappointment, noting that the council was informed ahead of the visit but failed to participate.

He stated, “We had shared our itinerary with the chairman, notifying him of our visit to evaluate projects approved by Governor Nasir Idris. This is part of the legislature’s constitutional duty. Unfortunately, the chairman and his council members were absent.”

During the visit, the committee only met with the vice chairman and a few directors, who were unable to provide adequate information about the projects. As a result, the committee could not proceed with the planned site inspections.

“We now have no choice but to summon the chairman and his team to appear before the House,” Dangoje added.

He also pointed out that Dandi Local Government was the only council among the 17 visited so far where the committee faced such resistance. The ongoing statewide exercise is designed to evaluate project implementation and ensure public funds are properly managed at the local government level.
