Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has admitted that his first season in charge has been a big disappointment. Even if the team wins the Europa League, he believes it won’t be enough to fix everything that went wrong.
United had a rough year. They were knocked out early from both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. In the Premier League, things have gone from bad to worse — the team is likely to finish outside the top 10, something that hasn’t happened in decades.
However, they are still fighting in Europe. Manchester United is in the semi-finals of the Europa League and will play against Athletic Bilbao. Winning the trophy could secure a spot in next season’s Champions League, but Amorim says that’s not enough to call the season a success.
In his words, “Everyone knows this is really important for our season. Nothing will ‘save’ our season but this can be huge. Winning a trophy and getting in the Champions League next year can change a lot of things, even in the summer.”
While fans are still hopeful for silverware, Amorim is clear: the problems this season go deeper than just results on the pitch. The Europa League might be a bright spot, but it won’t erase the struggles.
Now, all eyes are on the upcoming semi-final — a chance for some pride, and perhaps, a new beginning.
