The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has sentenced Olaniyan Gbenga Amos to 63 years in prison for running a fake investment scheme. Justice Olusola Adetujoye gave the judgment on Monday, April 28, 2025.
Amos was found guilty on 9 out of 30 charges. He ran his scam through a company called Detorrid Heritage Investment Limited. He collected millions of naira from people by promising high returns through a fake company named “Crime Alert Security Network.”
In one case, he took N995,000 from a man named Bada Titilope, promising a 30% return in six weeks. In another case, he tricked Onifade Isaac Olawale out of N920,000 using the same promise. The court said Amos knew his promises were lies.
Although Amos said he was not guilty, the court found strong evidence against him. The EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) brought eight witnesses and several documents to prove their case.
Justice Adetujoye gave Amos seven years for each of the 9 charges, totaling 63 years, but said the sentences would run at the same time. That means he will serve only seven years in prison. He was also told to return the money to his victims.
This isn’t Amos’s first fraud case. In December 2023, he was sentenced to 75 years in jail by another judge in a different case. He is still facing two more fraud trials in federal courts.
The EFCC says Amos’s scam made over N1 billion in losses for investors. He was first arrested in December 2021.
