The US Navy has saved nearly $300 million by cancelling expensive and unnecessary projects. This includes stopping some IT contracts, 45 grants, and award funding.
Secretary of the Navy, John C. Phelan, shared this news on his X account. He said that the IT contracts were not working well and cost too much. He also mentioned that the Navy was spending money on studies that are not important to national defense, such as research on how climate change affects humpback whales.
By removing these wasteful projects, the Navy will have more money to improve its readiness and strengthen its military power. Phelan praised the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for helping to find ways to save money.
He added that more cost-cutting actions could happen in the future.
