PDP Acting Chairman reacts to Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s defection to APC

The acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has expressed regret over the defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He called the move “deeply unfortunate.”

Damagum spoke during the presentation of a certificate of return to the PDP’s governorship candidate in Anambra, Ezenwafor Jude. He shared his disappointment about the defection, especially because the PDP has long supported Delta State leaders.

This defection comes as part of a broader trend where many high-profile figures are leaving the PDP for the APC. Despite this, Damagum stated that the 2027 general elections will not depend on how many governors join a party but on the will of the Nigerian people.

He highlighted that Delta State should not have taken this step, as the PDP has given them strong backing, including support for the current and former governors. Damagum added that this was unexpected from them.

Damagum also mentioned that the upcoming election will be a battle between the APC and ordinary Nigerians who are feeling the effects of President Bola Tinubu’s policies. He urged the public to come together and shape the country’s political future.

He reassured party members, saying the PDP will remain strong despite this setback. “We’ve been through tough times before and we are still standing,” he concluded.
