Nigerian businessman and socialite, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has responded after his adopted son, Chidi, claimed to be his next of kin on TikTok.
Chidi posted a video where he confidently said, “Nothing do my shoulder, I just realize say I be next of kin.” This stirred reactions online.
In what seemed like a direct response, Obi Cubana posted a photo on Instagram with his biological son, Alex, calling him “next of kin” in the caption. The caption read: “Ancient and modern, eyes on the ball. @dtwalx aka next of kin.”
Alex replied in the comment section, “Using my headphones right now,” and Obi Cubana responded, “Correct boy, original next-of-kin.”
This move caused mixed reactions on social media. Some people felt Obi Cubana should have handled the matter privately instead of making it public.
One X user, @Abazwhyllzz, said, “He should have asked the boy to delete the TikTok and solved it inside the house. This public show was not needed.”
Another user, @Soyecatherings, added, “This wasn’t the best way to settle things. Being next of kin means someone has to die or be too old to manage things. That’s not something to joke about.”
A third person, @DemoOfUK, commented, “You were invited to the table but you came with a long spoon. Being adopted doesn’t mean you own the house.”
The situation has sparked a lot of debate, with some people supporting Obi Cubana and others calling for more sensitivity when dealing with family issues online.
