Police in Rivers State have shot and killed four suspected kidnappers who were behind the abduction and murder of Hope Georgewill, the CEO of HMG Attitude Limited.
Georgewill was kidnapped on March 26 along the Cotton Channel in Bakana, Rivers State, along with two other people. Even though his family reportedly paid N2 million to get him released, the kidnappers still killed him and dumped his body.
According to the police, the gang responsible was led by a man named Preye Ngian-Ngian from Degema Local Government Area. The group is known for several other kidnapping cases across Rivers State and nearby areas.
The police began a detailed investigation after Georgewill’s murder. This led to the arrest of two suspects who later took the police to the gang’s hiding place in a creek near the Bonny waterways.
However, when the police got to the hideout, they were attacked with gunfire. In the shootout, two gang members were killed. The two suspects who helped the police also tried to run but were caught after being injured.
All four suspects were taken to the police clinic but were confirmed dead on arrival.
The police recovered important items from the hideout, including a speedboat used for their operations, two engines, a live cartridge, food supplies, and Georgewill’s mobile phone.
Police say they are still searching for other members of the gang who ran away. The Rivers State Police Command says it is committed to keeping the state safe for everyone.
