Lagos to unveil special vehicle number plates for persons with disabilities

The Lagos State Government is planning to launch special vehicle number plates for people with disabilities. This was shared by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during a press briefing to mark Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second year in his second term.

The Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority (LSNPPA) will handle this new plan. The authority also creates customized number plates for vehicles and motorcycles when people request them. So far, it has made 716 fancy plates for cars and 347 for motorcycles.

LSNPPA has also produced 224 special number plates for those who need unique numbers. They replaced 11,152 regular number plates, 212 motorcycle plates, and 63 fancy plates to help keep vehicle identification accurate.

In addition, the authority has made 428 official plates, 1,510 dealer plates, and 4,000 plates for heavy-duty vehicles.

The commissioner also said that LSNPPA is working with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to create eco-friendly number plates that support the ‘Go Green’ movement.

Talking about number plates fading over time, he explained that high-quality materials are used, but harsh car washing chemicals can still damage them. He reminded people that number plates, like humans, have a life span and should be replaced when necessary.
