Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has heaped praise on Jeremy Doku, describing him as the best in the world when it comes to quick, short sprints.
Guardiola made this remark after Manchester City claimed a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in their recent Premier League clash on Tuesday night.
The Spanish coach was full of admiration for Doku’s performance, saying the young Belgian winger was nearly impossible to stop during the match.
City secured the victory with goals from Matheus Nunes and Bernardo Silva. Despite Aston Villa pulling one back through Marcus Rashford, City held on for the three points.
Interestingly, Rashford, who’s currently on loan at Aston Villa from Manchester United, managed to score against City at the Etihad Stadium.
With the win, Manchester City remains in third place on the Premier League table as they continue to chase the top spot.
In his post-match interview, Guardiola highlighted Doku’s impact on the game. He said, “Jeremy always brings energy and excitement for the fans. We made changes and the game turned.”
He added that although Doku struggled a bit early in the match against defenders like Disasi and Malen, he eventually found his rhythm and made a difference.
Guardiola concluded by calling Doku “the best in the world in the first five metres,” saying he becomes unstoppable in those early bursts of speed.
Jeremy Doku joined the Manchester side from French club Rennes in August 2023, with the transfer costing the club around £55.5 million.
