Seven teams are still fighting for a spot in the Championship play-offs. This past Monday, both Leeds United and Burnley secured their return to the Premier League after important victories.
Leeds United cruised to a 6-0 win over Stoke City, with Joel Piroe scoring four goals. Burnley also had a tight match, winning 2-1 against Sheffield United.
Sheffield United came into the match at Turf Moor hoping to keep their automatic promotion chances alive and spoil Leeds and Burnley’s promotion celebrations. However, they now have to settle for a play-off spot despite earning 86 points from 44 games this season.
If the season ended now, Sheffield United would face Coventry City in the play-offs. Sunderland could meet Bristol City for a chance to reach the final. But the race is still tight, with just six points separating sixth-placed Coventry and West Brom in tenth. This means several teams are still in contention for a play-off spot.
