Football legend and former Real Madrid star, Luis Figo, has shared high praise for Barcelona’s young talent, Lamine Yamal. Speaking at the 2025 Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid, Figo said that Yamal is “the best” and believes other players should try to follow his example, especially in how he handles big matches without fear.

Lamine Yamal, who is just 17 years old, has had an amazing season. He has already helped Barcelona in their race for the LaLiga title and leads the league in assists with 14. A product of Barcelona’s youth academy, Yamal has shown great skill and maturity on the field.

In 2023, Yamal joined Barcelona’s first team and since then, he has made 36 goal contributions – 14 goals and 22 assists. His performances have caught the attention of fans and football legends alike.

Yamal’s hard work was recently rewarded when he won the ‘Breakthrough of the Year’ award at the 2025 Laureus World Sports Awards.

Figo, who once played for both Real Madrid and Barcelona, said, “He is the best. Everyone should be like him, the way he approaches this type of match.”
