Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused China of giving weapons and gunpowder to Russia during the ongoing war in Ukraine. This is the first time he has clearly said that China is helping Russia with military support.
Zelenskyy said that Ukraine now has information showing China is supplying weapons to Russia. He also claimed that Chinese workers are helping make weapons inside Russia.
In response, the Chinese government strongly denied these claims. On its official X (formerly Twitter) account, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it wants peace and talks to end the Ukraine crisis. It also said that China has never given deadly weapons to any side in the war and controls all exports strictly.
The Chinese government added that Ukraine knows most of the military parts used by Russia came from Western countries, not China. It called Zelenskyy’s statements “groundless accusations” and said they are just political games.
Zelenskyy also said that 155 Chinese citizens are fighting in Ukraine on Russia’s side. Ukraine says it has their names and passport details. This adds to Ukraine’s belief that China is more involved in the war than it claims.
Recently, Ukrainian forces caught two Chinese fighters in Donetsk. Zelenskyy said these men were part of a group of six Chinese soldiers trained in Moscow. They were reportedly recruited through social media and given documents and money to fight.
Zelenskyy shared a video of the captured Chinese men speaking in Mandarin. One of them said it was his first time in battle and he had never used a gun before. The other said his group got separated and he didn’t know what happened to the others.
Zelenskyy believes this shows China is getting more involved in the war and helping Russia keep fighting longer. He called it a serious issue and warned it could make the war worse.
