On April 17, 2025, Chidinma Ojukwu, the main suspect in the murder of Super TV CEO Michael Usifo Ataga, shared details in court about how she found Ataga’s lifeless body. This happened on June 15, 2021, at a short-let apartment in Lekki, Lagos.
Chidinma, a former Mass Communication student at the University of Lagos, explained to the Lagos High Court how she discovered Ataga’s body. After going out to buy food and juice, she returned to the apartment and knocked several times but didn’t get a response. When she pushed the door open, she saw blood on the floor and Ataga lying in a pool of blood. She rushed to check on him but found no pulse, and his eyes were half-shut.
Chidinma explained that her relationship with Ataga began in November 2020 after they met through a mutual friend. Ataga was kind to her, even helping with her school fees and supporting her cosmetics business. She also shared that Ataga was separated from his wife and had three children with her.
On June 13, 2021, Ataga invited her to spend time with him at a short-let apartment in Lekki, due to renovations at his home in Victoria Garden City. They spent time together, eating, drinking, and smoking. On June 14, Ataga asked her to arrange for cannabis and rohypnol, sending her money for the items. On June 15, he asked for more cannabis but was unable to send money, so he gave her cash for food and juice instead.
When Chidinma returned to the apartment later, she found Ataga dead. In panic, she quickly changed clothes, cleaned up the blood, and took items including his documents and jewelry before leaving the apartment.
The trial is set to continue on April 28, 2025.
