A youth group in Gombe State, known as the Concerned PDP Youth, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to step away from active political contests. The group urged Atiku to focus on an advisory role that would help shape the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking at a press briefing in Gombe, the group’s chairman, Jamilu Adamu, highlighted Atiku’s important contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and his legacy in the PDP. Adamu described Atiku as a statesman with an admirable political history.
Adamu stressed the importance of generational change within the PDP, urging the party’s leaders to provide more opportunities for young members. He believes this would help the party rebuild and position itself for the future.
According to Adamu, Atiku’s experience and wisdom could still benefit the PDP by mentoring and supporting upcoming leaders. He clarified that their suggestion was not a criticism of the former vice president but rather a respectful proposal to strengthen the party.
The group’s chairman also emphasized the need for fresh ideas within the PDP, calling for younger members to have a stronger influence in party decisions. This, he noted, would help the PDP become more inclusive and innovative.
Reaffirming their dedication to the PDP, Adamu encouraged party stakeholders to work towards unity and inclusiveness. He expressed hope that their message would be received positively and lead to constructive dialogue.
