The Rivers State Government has said that the news claiming Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, were called for a meeting by the Sole Administrator is false.
Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd.), who is the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, made it clear that he did not summon the governor or his deputy for any probe or meeting scheduled for Friday, April 18, 2025.
This clarification came in an official statement on Wednesday, April 16, from Sir Dede Sampson Friday, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
“The Rivers State Government has become aware of fraudulent announcements circulating on social media, falsely attributed to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government. These malicious fabrications are designed to mislead the public, create panic, and disrupt the peace in Rivers State.”
The government said that the fake news claimed Governor Fubara and his deputy were asked to come to the Government House to explain some appointments and state matters. However, the government strongly denied this and said the announcement did not come from any official source.
“The Rivers State Government categorically states that this announcement is fake and did not originate from any official source. The public is urged to disregard this and any similar misinformation, as they are the work of troublemakers seeking to destabilize the state.”
To stop more false information from spreading, the public was asked to only trust verified sources like the Rivers State Government website: www.riversstate.gov.ng, and the official Rivers State Government Facebook page. Other social media accounts are being reviewed and will be relaunched soon.
For any questions, people can contact the Office of the SSG at +234 913 574 8442. The government also reminded everyone to always check if information is true before sharing it and encouraged unity and peace as the state goes through this sensitive political time.
