Plateau United football club has confirmed that their striker, Vincent Temitope, was st@bbed in the neck by a fan after a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against Nasarawa United. The incident happened on Sunday, April 13, at the Lafia City Stadium, shortly after Plateau United lost 3-2.
According to the club’s Media Director, Yaksat Maklek, the player was approached by some fans who acted like they wanted to take photos with him. While chatting with them, one of the fans suddenly pulled out a knife and attacked him.
Maklek said, “After the game, some fans came to him like they wanted to snap pictures. One of them then stabbed him in the neck.”
He also explained that it could have been much worse if Temitope hadn’t managed to escape quickly.
Temitope was rushed to the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lafia, where he was treated. Doctors confirmed that he is now in stable condition.
The club has collected all necessary evidence and plans to send it to the NPFL for proper investigation and punishment.
Vincent Temitope joined Plateau United last year and was recently selected for the Super Eagles B squad for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN).
