LaLiga rejects Real Madrid’s request ahead Champions League clash with Arsenal

Real Madrid asked LaLiga to change the date of their weekend match against Alaves. They wanted to play on Saturday instead of Sunday, so the players could get more rest before their big Champions League game against Arsenal.

Real Madrid are currently losing 3-0 and hope to make a comeback in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu. The match against Arsenal is on Wednesday, April 16, just three days after their league game.

According to Cadena SER, Real Madrid even contacted Alaves first, and Alaves agreed to the change. But LaLiga said no and told both clubs the game must be played on Sunday, as planned.

While Real Madrid will play on Sunday, Arsenal will have their Premier League match against Brentford on Saturday. This gives the English side one extra day to rest before the big game.
