Popular Nigerian actress Funke Akindele has shared that she is raising her children alone without any help from her ex-husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, also known as JJC Skillz.
The actress and JJC Skillz got married in 2016 and welcomed their twin boys in 2018. However, in June 2022, JJC Skillz announced on Instagram that they had separated. He said they still had to work out the custody of their children and other matters related to their shared business.
In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Funke revealed that since the separation, she has been the only one taking care of their kids. She opened up about the emotional struggles she has faced in the last year.
Funke talked about how she felt after losing her mother, her failed political ambitions during the 2023 election, and the breakdown of her marriage. She said all these events made her feel depressed.
“I don’t like mourning,” she said. “When my mum died, I just wanted to move on quickly. But that pain stayed with me. I even went live on social media one day to ask people to stop stressing me. I was dealing with so much—my mum’s death, my broken marriage, losing in politics, and taking care of my kids alone.”
Funke said she eventually broke down and cried for weeks, something she rarely does. Despite everything, she is now focused on moving forward and taking care of her children on her own.
