I’ll make America’s showers great again – Trump launches war against water pressure

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to change federal rules that limit water pressure in home showers. He says he wants to “make America’s showers great again” by allowing more water to flow from showerheads.

The current rules were created during Barack Obama’s time as president and supported by Joe Biden. These rules were meant to save water and help the environment. They say that all nozzles in a showerhead must share a limit of 2.5 gallons (9.5 liters) of water per minute.

Trump wants to remove this limit and let each nozzle release 2.5 gallons per minute. He believes the current rule makes showers too weak and that people spend more time just trying to wash their hair. “You can’t wash your beautiful hair properly,” Trump joked while signing the order.

According to the White House, this change will remove unnecessary rules and give people more control over their home appliances. A fact sheet stated, “No longer will showerheads be weak and worthless.”

However, some groups are worried. The Appliance Standards Awareness Project (ASAP) says these water-saving rules have helped save money, reduce waste, and protect the environment for over 30 years. They warn that removing them could increase energy bills and water use.

Joe Biden had previously reversed Trump’s changes in 2020, bringing back Obama’s version of the rule. The Biden administration believes keeping the water-saving policy is better for the environment and people’s wallets.

Still, Trump argues that people should have the freedom to choose how much water pressure they want in their homes, especially since they pay for their own water.

The rule change will take effect 30 days after the Department of Energy officially announces the update.
