Tinubu inaugurates Nigerian Independent System Operator board

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially launched the board of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO). This move is part of the 2023 Electricity Act, which aims to restructure the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

The inauguration took place at the Presidential Villa and was led by Vice President Kashim Shettima. The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, was also present.

The new NISO board includes both executive and non-executive members. Dr. Adesegun Olugbade has been appointed as the board chairman, while Engr. Abdullahi Bello Mohammed will serve as the Managing Director and CEO.

Other key executive members are:

  • Engineer Nafisatu Asabe Ali (Executive Director, Systems Operation)
  • Engineer Shehu Abba-Aliyu (Executive Director, Systems Planning)
  • Dr. Edmund Eje (Executive Director, Market Operations)
  • Mr. Babajide Ibironke (Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Services)

The non-executive directors include:

  • Engineer Lamu Audu (Generation)
  • Mrs. Folake Soetan (Distribution)
  • Tajudeen Giwa-Osagie (Market Expert)
  • Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz (Transmission)
  • Alhaji Mahmuda Mamman, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power

This new board is expected to help improve the management and operation of Nigeria’s electricity system.
