The Taraba State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, working together with NAPTIP, has rescued eight children who were victims of human trafficking.
These children were taken from Minda Village in Lau Local Government Area and were being moved to southeastern Nigeria under false claims that they were orphans.
According to Mrs. Mary Sinjen, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, the children were trafficked to places like Aba, Onitsha, and Imo State. The traffickers were stopped in Gembu, Sardauna Local Government Area, before they could go further.
After a full investigation, the children were reunited with their real parents in March 2025. The children shared that they had been sold without their families knowing about it.
Thanks to the quick action of the ministry and NAPTIP, the children were brought back home safely. The main suspect, a woman named Mrs. Patience, and some of her partners in the crime have been arrested and are now in custody while the case continues in court.
The Commissioner also said they are still looking for more children who may have been trafficked.
Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, strongly condemned the act and promised to continue protecting children across the state.
Authorities have asked people in Taraba to stay alert and report any strange activities. They reminded everyone that protecting children is something the whole community must work together on.
