Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has admitted that taking off Ademola Lookman during their 1-0 loss to Lazio was a mistake.
Lookman was substituted in the 75th minute, but Gasperini said it wasn’t supposed to be him. The coach explained that Brazilian defender Ederson was actually the one who was meant to be subbed out.
However, once Lookman’s number was shown on the electronic board, the mistake couldn’t be undone.
“There was a mistake. Only Retegui was supposed to come off,” Gasperini told DAZN. “Unfortunately, there was confusion between ‘Ede’ for Ederson and ‘Ade’ for Lookman, and it cost us a lot.”
The loss was a big blow to Atalanta’s hopes of winning the Serie A title this season.
