Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has made it clear that he will not run for a Senate seat after his time as governor. Speaking at an event hosted by the Anambra Development Unions Association in Aba, Governor Otti said he plans to retire after serving two terms—eight years—in office.
“When I finish my eight years here, I will retire. I am not going to Abuja,” he said. He called recent rumours about his future political plans false and misleading. Otti stressed that his only focus is to serve the people of Abia State.
He also said it’s time for the younger generation to get more chances in politics. “We are no longer that young. The world is changing, and young people are rising. Let’s give them opportunities,” he added.
Governor Otti also spoke about the case of 154 civil servants, mostly teachers, who were removed from their jobs in 2011. He called the move unfair and illegal, saying it was reportedly done based on their state of origin. He has asked the head of service to review the issue and suggest how to fix it.
Otti said those under 65 years old could be rehired on contract to help with the shortage of teachers in the state. Others who are older would be considered for fair compensation. He promised that his government will stand for justice and correct the mistakes of past leaders.
