Brazilian footballer Arthur Melo has been robbed in broad daylight while in Barcelona. Melo, who is currently playing for Girona in Spain’s La Liga, was in the city enjoying some time off when the incident happened.
According to reports from Marca, the robbery took place around 4pm on Passeig de Gracia, a well-known street in Barcelona. Melo was paying for his parking ticket when a person jumped off a motorbike and quickly snatched his luxury watch. The thief then ran off at high speed.
It’s believed that two people were involved in the robbery. Thankfully, Arthur Melo was not hurt. He immediately reported the incident to the police.
Despite the robbery, Melo returned to training on Friday and is expected to play in Girona’s upcoming match against Alaves on Saturday.
This is not the first time the 28-year-old footballer has been targeted. Back in 2019, during a Champions League match between Barcelona and Liverpool, his home was broken into.
At that time, two masked men reportedly threatened his brother with a weapon and forced him to open a safe containing valuables, including a Rolex watch and jewellery. Fortunately, no one was injured in that incident either.
Arthur Melo’s recent experience is a reminder of the safety concerns public figures often face, even in busy city areas.
