David Umahi arrives in Lagos for urgent intervention on Independence Bridge rehabilitation

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has arrived in Lagos to look into the ongoing repair work on the Independence Bridge. The bridge was temporarily closed after it was found to be structurally unsafe, but its closure has caused severe traffic congestion, prompting an urgent response.

Umahi had ordered repairs on the bridge, but the traffic problems that followed needed immediate action. A statement released by his media adviser confirmed that he came to Lagos to address the situation.

The statement also mentioned that less than 24 hours after the traffic issues began, Umahi arrived to assess the situation and find a solution. He made it clear that he was committed to fixing the problem quickly.

On April 2, 2025, Umahi instructed that the bridge be reopened to help ease the traffic troubles for Lagos residents.

Engr. Olukorode Kesha, the Controller of Works for Lagos State, said that while the bridge will be reopened, some parts had been damaged during the repairs and are being fixed. He reassured the public that work is being done around the clock to complete the necessary repairs and ensure the bridge can safely handle traffic again.
