People with criminal records, forged certificates in charge of Nigeria – Peter Obi

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has strongly criticized Nigeria’s leadership. Speaking on Arise Television, he claimed that individuals with criminal records and fake educational certificates are in charge of the country. According to Obi, Nigeria is far from being a democratic nation.

Obi argued that a real democracy requires independent institutions, including a strong judicial system. However, he believes Nigeria lacks this. He also stated that freedom of speech is under threat, with even influential people like him facing harassment for speaking out.

“There is no democracy in Nigeria today. Nigeria is not a democratic country. Let’s stop deceiving ourselves,” he said.

He pointed out that democracy requires qualified leaders who meet set standards, including education requirements. However, according to him, this is not being enforced, allowing unqualified individuals with forged certificates to hold positions of power.

Obi also referenced recent political events, such as the situation in Rivers State, as proof that Nigeria is not operating under a true democratic system.

While he acknowledged that Nigeria may be working towards democracy, he insisted that the country has not yet achieved it.
