Uromi Massacre: I’ll Pay Full Compensation To Families Of Victims – Edo Governor Okpebholo

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has assured the families of 16 hunters killed in the Uromi Massacre that they will receive full compensation for their loss.

The governor, who was deeply saddened and angered by the incident, vowed that those responsible for the gruesome killings would face justice.

Governor Okpebholo visited Torankawa in Bunkure Local Government Area, where he was accompanied by Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and other top officials.

During the visit, he promised to provide cash assistance and food donations to the affected families to support them during this difficult time.

“We will make sure justice is served on those behind this terrible act,” he stated firmly.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people, including family members of the victims and supporters, held a peaceful protest. They carried placards with messages like “We demand justice for the killings of our people,” “Hunters are not criminals,” and “We want speedy justice.”

The protest took place along the road leading to Torankawa village, where many hunters also joined, holding their hunting weapons. Some of them, visibly upset, sang war songs and brandished their weapons as the governor’s convoy passed. Despite the tension, local residents ensured that the protest remained peaceful.

Other protest messages included “Killings in the North must stop,” “Northerners are peace-loving citizens,” and “Justice must prevail.”

Governor Okpebholo’s visit and his pledge to compensate the victims’ families bring some hope, as the people continue to demand justice for the tragic killings.
