‘Friends forever, never enemies’ – China tells Russia

China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, has reaffirmed the strong bond between China and Russia, emphasizing that they will always remain friends and never enemies. Wang made this statement on Tuesday during his visit to Moscow. He also welcomed signs of improving relations between Russia and the United States.

Wang highlighted that the principle of “friends forever, never enemies” provides a strong foundation for deepening strategic cooperation between China and Russia.

His visit to Moscow is part of a three-day trip focused on strengthening their partnership. However, the visit comes at a time of uncertainty regarding a possible ceasefire in Ukraine and criticism from US President Donald Trump toward both Russian and Ukrainian leaders.

China and Russia have maintained a close relationship, particularly since February 2022, when Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin have met more than 40 times in the past decade, reinforcing their commitment to cooperation on issues such as Taiwan, Ukraine, and their shared rivalry with the United States.

During his visit, Wang met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and was also scheduled to meet with President Putin.

He stated that major global powers should act as stabilizing forces in the current international climate. He viewed the improving US-Russia relationship as a positive step for global stability.

The Kremlin recently mentioned that discussions are ongoing between Russia and the US regarding a potential peace settlement in Ukraine and strengthening bilateral ties.

Since taking office in January, President Trump has adopted a more diplomatic approach toward Russia. Wang sees this shift as beneficial for maintaining a balance of power among major nations and providing hope in uncertain global conditions.

Wang also dismissed claims that Trump aims to support Russia in opposition to China. He criticized such notions as outdated and based on divisive thinking, emphasizing the importance of cooperation over conflict.

As China and Russia continue to deepen their strategic partnership, their relationship remains a key factor in global politics.
