Residents of Otukpo in Benue State have taken to the streets to protest against the increasing cases of killings and kidnappings in the area. The demonstrators, chanting “We no go gree!”, blocked major roads, demanding urgent action from the government and security agencies to address the growing insecurity.
One of the protesters, Daniel Oche, shared his concerns about the frequent attacks. He described them as a “constant recurrence” and made a shocking claim that electricity is always cut off before each attack.
He said;
“This keeps happening over and over again. We are not safe in our homes. And have you noticed? NEPA (JEDC) always takes light before these attacks. It’s like they don’t want us to see what’s coming,”
The protest follows a series of violent attacks in Otukpo. Many residents have fled their homes, while those who remain live in fear. The growing insecurity has left the community in distress, with people calling for immediate intervention.
Despite the tense situation, security operatives have not been deployed to the scene at the time of the protest. Residents continue to demand urgent action from the authorities to restore peace and protect lives.
