Jerry Omotsegunwa, Special Assistant to the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Governor Fubara to clearly explain the reason behind their ongoing conflict.
Omotsegunwa stated that neither Wike nor Fubara has openly shared what caused their disagreement. He mentioned that even Fubara himself still does not understand why Wike turned against him.
The political crisis in Rivers State has been serious, leading President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on March 18, 2025. As a result, both Fubara and the State House of Assembly members were suspended.
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has claimed in an interview with DW that the crisis is about money. However, Omotsegunwa dismissed this claim as a personal opinion, stating that no one knows the real reason behind the crisis.
“This issue has been ongoing for nearly two years, and we still don’t have clear answers,” Omotsegunwa said. He recalled how, during the attempt to impeach Fubara, the governor asked for his offence, and Wike responded that Fubara was trying to destroy his political structure.
Omotsegunwa emphasized that while Amaechi has the right to his opinion, the actual cause of the crisis remains a mystery.
