The Kremlin has confirmed that Russia and the United States are working on possible solutions for peace in Ukraine, even though US President Donald Trump recently expressed frustration with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Trump was reportedly upset after Putin questioned the credibility of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In response, Trump suggested he might impose extra tariffs of 25%-50% on buyers of Russian oil. Despite these tensions, Trump later stated that progress was being made step by step.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow is continuing discussions with Washington, emphasizing that Putin is open to engaging with Trump.
He mentioned that both nations are also working on ideas for resolving the Ukraine conflict, but no specific details are available yet due to the complexity of the process.
Trump, who has positioned himself as a peacemaker, has repeatedly expressed his desire to end the three-year war in Ukraine and warned about the risks of a larger conflict between the US and Russia.
Meanwhile, Finland’s President Alexander Stubb met with Trump in Florida and suggested setting a deadline for a ceasefire in Ukraine. Stubb believes Trump is the only leader capable of brokering peace, as he is someone Putin both fears and respects.
