Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has visited Kano State to console the families of victims who lost their lives in the recent attack in Uromi, Edo State. Most of the victims were from Kano, and the governor assured them that justice would be served.
During his visit, Okpebholo described the attack as a tragic event. He explained that upon hearing the news, he left Abuja early in the morning and rushed to Uromi to meet with affected families.
He acknowledged the support he received from Kano people during his campaign and assured them that their loss is deeply felt.
The governor emphasized that significant progress has been made in the investigation. He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered security agencies to find those responsible.
So far, 14 suspects have been arrested, and more arrests will follow as investigations continue. The arrested suspects will be transferred to Abuja for further questioning.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, praised Okpebholo for his swift response. He explained that the victims were traveling from Port Harcourt when they were brutally attacked.
He also confirmed that the Edo governor had helped in retrieving the bodies and arranging proper burials. Governor Yusuf appreciated Okpebholo’s commitment to supporting the affected families and ensuring justice.
A representative of the Arewa community in Edo State, Badamasi Sally, spoke about the strong bond between the northern community and the people of Edo. He emphasized that this tragic incident should not damage the peaceful relationship they have shared for many years. Sally also pointed out that some Uromi residents helped rescue victims during the attack, showing their compassion.
Similarly, Fred Akhigbe, leader of the Edo community in Kano, expressed gratitude for Governor Okpebholo’s visit. He urged both communities to remain peaceful and united. He noted that there was initial fear after the incident, but the quick actions of both governors reassured everyone.
This visit highlighted the importance of unity and strong leadership in times of crisis. Both state governments have pledged to ensure justice is served and that such incidents do not happen again.
