The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a businessman named Arokodare Ebenezer for allegedly smuggling cannabis from the United States into Nigeria. The 43-year-old, who owns a business in Lekki, was caught on March 24 while waiting to receive his latest drug shipment at Bay Lounge, Admiralty Way, Lekki.
According to NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, Ebenezer’s illegal shipment, which contained 60 parcels of “loud” (a strong type of cannabis), arrived in Nigeria on March 12. The drugs were packed in seven large cartons and delivered to a Lagos logistics company.
After his arrest, NDLEA officers searched his home and found 94 grams of cannabis, a grinder, and other drug-related items. In total, 32.24 kilograms of illegal drugs were recovered. Ebenezer admitted that he had been involved in the drug trade since 2017.
In another case, NDLEA officers prevented a man named Omoruyi Terry from smuggling 1,400 pills of tramadol (a strong painkiller) to Italy. Terry was caught at Murtala Muhammed International Airport while trying to board a Qatar Airways flight.
The NDLEA chairman, Mohamed Marwa, praised the agency’s officers for their hard work. He also wished them a happy Eid al-Fitr and encouraged them to stay committed to the fight against drugs in Nigeria.
