A forensic expert has revealed that football legend Diego Maradona suffered intense pain for at least 12 hours before his death in 2020. The findings were shared in a Buenos Aires court during the trial of seven medical professionals who treated him at home.
Carlos Cassinelli, a forensic doctor, explained that Maradona’s heart was covered in fat and blood clots, a clear sign of prolonged suffering. The autopsy confirmed that he died from fluid buildup in the lungs caused by heart failure.
Cassinelli also stated that Maradona’s condition was not sudden. He had been collecting fluid in his body for days, meaning his worsening health should have been noticed earlier. He stressed that Maradona should have been in a hospital, not at home, as any doctor would have recognized the signs of serious illness.
This revelation has raised more concerns about the medical care Maradona received in his final days. The trial continues as the court investigates whether the doctors and nurses failed to provide proper treatment.
