Go back home to your parents, not your boyfriends after collecting certificates – NYSC Coordinator tells female corps members

The Bauchi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Yakubu, has advised female corps members to go home to their parents after completing their service.

She gave this advice on March 27, 2025, during the distribution of National Service certificates to outgoing corps members.

Speaking specifically to the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream 11 female corps members, she reminded them that their boyfriends are not their parents.

She urged them to celebrate their achievement with their families instead of moving in with their boyfriends after collecting their certificates.

Yakubu also encouraged corps members to make good use of the skills they learned during their service, especially through the NYSC’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.

She advised those who had not yet acquired any skills to start learning a trade instead of staying idle at home. She also recommended using their last allowance wisely by investing in learning something valuable.

The NYSC Coordinator strongly warned corps members against engaging in illegal activities like internet fraud (yahoo yahoo), kidnapping, or ritual killings in an attempt to make quick money. She emphasized that these actions do not reflect the values of the NYSC and encouraged them to be responsible citizens.

Lastly, she advised corps members to carefully check their National Service certificates for any errors before laminating them.

Yakubu reminded them to be good representatives of their families, institutions, and the NYSC as they move into the next phase of their lives.
