FIFA announces $125m prize for Club World Cup winner

FIFA has confirmed that the champion of the first edition of the newly formatted Club World Cup could win up to $125 million. This announcement was made by FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Wednesday.

The tournament, set to take place from June 14 to July 13, will have a total prize pool of $1 billion. FIFA has now shared details on how the prize money will be distributed among the 32 participating teams.

Each team will receive a portion of the $525 million allocated for participation. Another $475 million will be given out based on team performance. The winning team, after playing seven matches, could take home a maximum of $125 million, including bonuses.

European clubs will receive the highest payments, with amounts ranging from $12.81 million to $38.19 million, depending on various factors.

South American teams will get $15.21 million each. Clubs from North and Central America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa will receive $9.55 million each, while Auckland City, the only team from Oceania, will receive $3.58 million.

According to FIFA, this distribution model marks the highest prize money ever awarded in a club competition with both group and knockout stages.

Additionally, FIFA will introduce a special $250 million program to support football development worldwide. Infantino assured that all revenue from the tournament will go toward improving club football.

With such massive rewards, the upcoming Club World Cup promises to be one of the most exciting football events in history.
