Hajiya Maryam Suleiman, the Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, has rejected former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s decision to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP). She called it a “wrong political calculation” and made it clear that she remains loyal to APC.
Maryam was once a strong supporter of El-Rufai but has now distanced herself from him. She admitted that she previously criticized Governor Uba Sani due to misinformation and expressed regret for her past statements.
Praising Governor Uba Sani, she described him as a leader who genuinely cares for the people. She also criticized El-Rufai’s past policies, such as market demolitions and teacher dismissals, which she said caused hardship for many.
To show her new stance, she changed her nickname from “Maryam Mai Rusau” (meaning “Maryam the Demolisher,” linked to El-Rufai) to “Maryam Mai Ginau” (meaning “Maryam the Builder,” in support of Uba Sani’s development plans).
Her shift in loyalty marks an important change in Kaduna’s political scene, as APC works to strengthen its influence.
