Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of twisting and manipulating the new truce covering the Black Sea and energy strikes.
This comes after the United States announced on Tuesday that both Russia and Ukraine had agreed to avoid using force in the Black Sea following talks in Saudi Arabia. The US also confirmed separate agreements with Kyiv and Moscow to ensure safe navigation and stop attacks on energy facilities in both countries.
However, Zelenskyy expressed doubts about Russia’s commitment to these agreements. Speaking at a news conference in Kyiv, he said he did not trust Moscow to follow through. Later, in his nightly video message, he accused Russia of misleading the world.
“The US considers these agreements active from the moment they were announced. Unfortunately, even today, on the very day of the talks, we see Russia already manipulating them,” Zelenskyy stated.
He also dismissed claims by the Kremlin that the Black Sea shipping agreements were connected to sanctions on Moscow. He assured that Ukraine would uphold the deal but warned that Russia would face consequences if it carried out new attacks.
These accords are the first to focus on stopping energy strikes since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, sparking the biggest conflict in Europe since World War II.
