Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has suggested that Darwin Nunez may not stay with the club next season. He believes Liverpool should look for a strong replacement in the summer transfer window.
Owen has recommended Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak as a top target. The Swedish striker has had an impressive season and helped Newcastle win the Carabao Cup, scoring a crucial goal in their 2-1 victory over Liverpool.
Owen believes Arsenal is also interested in Isak, but Liverpool should compete for his signature. He told talkSPORT, “If Isak is available, Liverpool should do everything to sign him. Arsenal also needs a player like him, and many clubs would want him.”
He added that special players are needed to reach the highest level, mentioning Liverpool’s strong defense and Mohamed Salah’s impact in attack.
Regarding Nunez’s future, Owen said, “I don’t see Darwin Nunez playing for Liverpool next season. There is interest from Premier League clubs and teams abroad.”
With the summer transfer window approaching, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will act on Owen’s advice and make a move for Isak.
